If you go to this website, you can put in your zip code and see.

I put in my fiance’s, and the average was $45,500!!!!

We’re having our wedding in his city, and we’re well under $7000

Curious as to how it’s like around the U.S., and do you plan to go under or over that?

$24,000 here. However, I think it’s absolutely outrageous to spend that amount of money on a wedding. My fiancee and I are spending no more than $4,000 or so and it will still be beautiful and something our guests will always remember. I would feel guilty spending that amount of money on a wedding. You’re celebrating your love and life together, that’s all that should matter.

Well, the "average" of my city is $19,580 but I plan on spending about $2,500 at most! I don’t understand how they come up with those averages.

EDIT: My city has 2 zip codes. My zip code/side of town is $19,580 but the other zip code/side of town is $23,900. Isn’t that odd? I’d have thought they’d be the same since they are both zip codes for the same city.

The average in the city we got married in is $29,090. We spent more than that though.

"On average, couples that live in zip code XXXXX (sometown, CT) spend $57,020 for their wedding."

That was quoted exactly from the website. I just deleted my personal info, like my exact city/zip.

I’m glad you posted this question.

I come on this website trying to get wedding help and I’ll say I have a 20K budget. People will tell me I’m overspending and I want a "lavish" wedding.

I’ll then try to explain the cost of living in my area, but people seem to think I’m exaggerating.

But, I’m not. It’s quite costly to do ANYTHING where I live.

If I can plan my wedding on 20K, then I’m doing it on the "cheap" for around here.

EDIT: I also put in the zip code for the nearest big city to me. The average was 28K, but the city isn’t typical of big cities. It’s more economically deprived then most typical major cities. So, there isn’t a nice part of the city and then a low income area. It’s pretty all the same.

According to that website people spend an average of $99,940 on their weddings. I dont know what this includes though. If you include our jewlery, bridesmaids gifts, and honeymoon we are spending $110,000.

If not we are spending about $15,000 under budget.

Apparently where I live, its $32,500. I guess it is a big city, but I didn’t think it was quite that high!

My wedding is costing about $2,500, 30,000 dollars less lol.

In NYC where I live it is around $70,000!!!!!!!!! We’re having a destination wedding though, and the average of that city is $17,000. We’re spending more than that, but nowhere NEAR $70,000!!!!!
I’m guessing the reason it is so high in NYC is because there are some mega-rich people who probably spend hundreds of thousands on their weddings, and that bumps the whole average up. I think the true middle-class average would be much lower.

$32,830 is the average in my city. Our budget is $20,000 and we will not go over budget!
I’m in the same boat as J’adore above – but I’m in PA. These really are the prices for our area and $20k is being super-cheap.

The average in my area (Miami) is $43,200!!! We are way off because our budget is $8000 or less. We want something really casual yet romantic. I’m even able to afford a wedding planner who has been a lifesaver so far! I’m sure our special day will be beautiful even without the outrageous budget!

My zip code shows close to $20,000 for the average wedding. My above average wedding in the same zip code was less than half that cost.

Depends on zip code. In the NE and NW parts of town, anywhere from 18,000 to 40,000.

Edit: I don’t think anyone thinks they are gonna spend near the average until they start planning. We decided to do Las Vegas since it is halfway between our two states and families. We will probably end up spending near that.

In my province, it is $15,000, below the Canadian average of $25,000. Mine will be at $8000 thanks to DIY! I’m making the invitations, favors, centerpieces and many others. This is for a guest list of 250 with a full reception – meal, dance, midnight lunch. Good luck and best wishes!
