I wanna have my wedding outside (June wedding) at a park somewhere. & for the reception, I would rather just have a BBQ at the same park. but then, if people wanna drink Alcohol then I will have to find a Reception hall. though if anyone know’s where I can rent a cheap Hall for the reception, that would be great. I live in Hobart, IN.

You don’t have to have alcohol. If you are doing a cook out you just need to buy in bulk the items you need for a BBQ and have someone cook. You could have it catered but the park lends itself to folks just cooking out for you. That could just be a couple hundred dollars for food and supplies. Caterers usually charge either a set amount for x number of dinners or x amount for a buffet. I’d be looking at a bare minimum of 15 a head if you were going the route of catering.

Might I suggest going to The Knot wedding site or other wedding site and downloading a wedding planner worksheet? It will give you so many details to think about that you’ll realize that you need to give the planning more thought.

How does your fiance feel about having the wedding in a park? Is this something he’s agreed to?

What’s your budget and maybe we can all come up with some more direct answers for you. Cheap weddings are good but you don’t want it toooooo cheap. Eating off paper plates isn’t really for a wedding.

I’m going through the same thing that you are right now. Have you thought about having the wedding at a friend’s house? I’m getting married by my friend’s pool. The reception is going to be in the same place, so if they want to drink they can. I plan on spending approximately $200-$300. I work in a resteraunt, and my boss is providing free food for the wedding. My friend is a photographer, so she won’t charge me for the pictures. My Dad is in a band, so he is going to play during part of the reception. My friend has 30 fold up chairs at her house, but I am telling everyone bring their own chairs if possible, so I don’t have to pay to rent seats. I’ll probably buy one of those ice cream cakes from Dairy Queen ($20.) Drinks and ice cream ($20). We will buy him a new outfit, and me a new outfit to wear. (We aren’t wearing wedding dress & tuxedo). ($100.) Then I will buy about $100 worth of decorations. (Flowers, etc.) And that’s it! As for a cheap hall, I have no idea. You’ll just have to call around. Hope this helps!

Look for a social club that will rent you their hall or let you have their anex. Shouldn’t be too expensive and they will probably be glad of the extra business. I reckon you could get one for $200 excluding disco etc.

Senior Centers are always cheap … An remember you can avoid a whole lot of mess and headaches if you find a restaurant you like that will cater for cheap.. you can have a buffet type thing ,,, that will make everything easier for you …

I had 150 at my wedding in southern Indiana and spent about $5k. If you’re not getting that expensive of a dress, I would think easily 2 to 3k. Also depends on whether you have a professional photographer, that really ran up our cost.

My sister is planning a December wedding in Terre Haute with about 250 guests, but only doing meat and cheese trays for the reception. I think she’s planning $5k or less. But 1k of that is for the dress.

If you do some things yourself, and hire an amateur photography, it shouldn’t cost that much.

Check with your local chamber of commerce or library, those places should have lists of places that rent out halls.

I’m having the same size wedding at my parent’s house and the budget is a bit over $7k. You could do it for less, depending on your specific desires. For instance, our officiant is very expensive ($500), but we are doing our own music (Ipod and speakers) for the reception. I recommend the budget calculator on weddingchannel.com- I think it’s a little better than the one on Knot.
