We’re trying to work on our budgeting right now… Does anyone know around what the average cost of a wedding gown might be?
Edit:: We want to have a ballroom-ish wedding.

It depends on what sort of gown it is and where you get it. Honestly, there is no real average price. My gown retails for $2500 in one bridal shop and $1849 in a different shop. My future mother in law made the perfect replica (she is very talented) for $129! You some really nice gowns at a cheaper price by buying straight off the rack or finding deals online. Some deb dresses these days look like bridal gowns and they sell for hundreds less. I would set a budget of about $1500 if you can afford it and I wouldn’t spend that much if I didn’t have to. Good luck

You’re working this backwards. Start with your total budget, map out all expenses and prioritize what’s most important to you. (Photos, cake, dress, etc). Spend accordingly. That will help you arrive at a maximum dress price so you can shop accordingly. Make sure you add room for unexpected and additional costs. Expect your budget to go over by 20% so plan well UNDER your initial estimates.

The price varies depending on where you live.
My gown was $2000 which is average in my town. I did see a shop having a sale and some of the gowns were $500 but they were dresses that had been used for trying them on for style and size.
On this site I have seen some people have only paid $200.
So depending on where you are from the average will vary.

I agree with everyone, there is really no average for wedding gowns. It also depends on what kind of wedding you want to. Do you want something simple or something extravagant. My sister had her dream princess wedding complete with the big skirt and her dress cost about $2000 and I went for something more simple, in the gardens and I paid $1200. Both were beautiful dresses though!

If you look on sites that average would be between $700 – $1000. This is for most mainstream designers that use (for the most part) synthetic materials, not silks and such. Maggie sottero, Alfred Angelo, Jasmine, Mori Lee, Jacqueline bridals, wtoo, eden etc
Of course you can find dresses cheaper or MUCH more expensive.

Just from looking around a lot at them, it seems that $500-600 gets a pretty lovely gown. There are some around for $300, and of course – much higher!

I have to agree with everyone here so far. The prices vary greatly as to where you shop, what you want, and what size you are.
I bought my dress used for $20. to save money. It was big and beautiful. We are planning my daughters wedding now and gowns up and over a $1000. were common. Don’t forget other dresses, such as prom and bridesmaid. Cheaper and still nice.

As everyone has said, it really can vary. My dress, which was the dress of my dreams– ballroom, huge train, embroidered with crystal and pearls, I found on the $99 rack at Davids Bridal, originally priced $1000+, saw an identical style in Bridal Mags for $5,000. So, it really can vary. Seriously, check out the $99 sale. You may not find anything, but you might just luck out like I did 🙂 Have fun and good luck!
