A wedding that is not small but not really big either.
And what makes it a big wedding? Is it the number of guests?
If so, where is the cut off between average size and large?

Alot. Somewhere in the ballpark of $35K.

A big vs small wedding is based on the guest count. Some people consider 50 or fewer to be small and anything more than 50 is huge. Others consider anything under 100 to be small and then you have folks who consider anything under 200 to be small. It depends on what is customary in your family and social circle.

It would probably cost over $1000. That is if you go cheap.

The average cost for a US wedding is $35,000. Don’t know how many guests that is for, guessing I’d say 200 (including dates and wedding party.)

I have been pricing some things in my area and some things that surprised me are:
    $1500 minimum for photographer
    $400 for simple cake
$2000 minimum for booking a venue

What makes a big wedding is all the little extras like favours, meal service, food, drink, etc. If you can cut out the unnecessary then you cut down the cost. And remember for every person you add to the guest list that is another X amount of dollars added to your budget.

I have also been pricing out alternatives and I figure I could do a wedding for 60 ppl max. for $3000. I would have to do a lot things myself and rely on family connections.

EDIT: Food alone is very expensive. Not talking weddings, just to feed people a decent meal is about $13 per person ($800 for 60 ppl). Buy food from wholesale places to reduce cost.

I work for a hotel and you could get away with doing it for 10k…just use your local resources. Average wedding though would be about 20k

I have a hundred people coming to my wedding at total I am only spending 700.00 so it depends how you want your wedding.
I mean mine is nice, its inside a church and we even rented a bar for the reception. Decorating is easy to, do it all yourself

the answers to your question are all very subjective.

A "big" wedding to me is the number of attendants you have and the number of guests. To me anything over 4 attendants (2 each) and/or 50 guests is big. Realistically 100 guests is probably more likely to be considered a big wedding. I don’t know 100 people so that influences my input.

As far as cost – it depends on what you want, where you want it and how hard you’re willing to work for it (how much will you do yourself). I would say many people spend $10,000 or more on a wedding with a catered reception.

The average cost of a wedding really depends on your location. The website below will break it down for you according to your zip code. It’s really cool to see the average amounts of everything for a wedding in your area!

In my area (Western CT), my fiance and I are spending almost $10,000 LESS than the average wedding and it’s still costing us about $24,000 for our wedding for 200 guests.

Keep in mind that average means that they include outrageously expensive weddings as well as super cheap ones.

I got married in NY which is close to CA prices and it adds up quickly. Definately thousands to do the typical thing at a hall and such. Things to keep in mind: small is less than 100 or 150 but it depends on the day and time of year, June an dSept big months, Sat night very big so places will want a minimum number to give their room over to you. Different time of year will be better, well maybe less so in So Cal but here yes. Weekday less than weekend, buffet less than sit down meal, etc. We had a small wedding but watned Sat in Sept, coudn’t find a place to take us but ended up doing teh Sunday of Labor day weekend and so everyone still had the next day off but we got the place and the Sun price. Full open bar a lot, limited is less, pix can be a lot, dress, etc. We didnt’ get cars, our friends drove us, we did wedding and reception at same place so no fees for church, used table flowers for alter to less on flowers, no favors, no one cares, DJ vs band was less, so there are ways to keep the cost down.
