I am trying to plan a budget for my wedding and was wondering how much it would cost for the reception. I live in South Carolina and we thought about having barbeque but decided it would be too expensive. Instead we are only going to have finger foods and cake but no alcohol so that should cut cost. I was wondering what an estimate would be for about 240 people. We are going to have it at a different location so not everyone will show up and the catering and rental fees are free. I just need to know an estimate on the cost of food and some ideas on what to serve, including other kinds of beverages then alcohol or punch. Thanks for the help!
It will be near Orangeburg, SC.

I live in SC and I did the whole finger foods idea for my reception bc it was an afternoon wedding. I had about 125 people and I spent $250 on the food, so you could double that estimate. Sam’s Club will be your new best friend, find someone with a membership or invest in one yourself. As far as ideas for food, we had saucy meatballs, Danish wedding cookies, ham and cheese mini croissants, cookies, fruit, and sausage balls. As far as beverages, of course we had the sherbet punch, but it’s the South, everyone loves sweet tea. You might offer unsweetened or diet soda for anyone that is diabetic. Good luck!

Well I think you should only need to spend about $500. That is not a lot but you should not go any lower than that. I hope this information helps you a lot. Just dont go over board.

It depends on where in SC you are having it. The major areas will be more expensive (charleston and columbia) then the outter areas it just depends on the caterer. If you do it yourself or have family help it will be much cheaper. For finger foods it really depends on what you like. (keep in mind the more different types of food you have the better chance of running out of something)

Cheese (sliced for snadwiches or block cuts for nibbling), fruit, and cold cuts with rolls are the most popular

I bought 4 huge boxes of goldfish crackers (because I just love them, available at wal-mart for 6 bucks a gallon size box)

For drinks you could do bottled water or juice, soda too but that could get expensive by the can.

A BBQ is a great way to feed a lot of people on a budget. Instead of asking how much per pound ask the place how much for them to cook a whole hog. It is usually about half the price and if your gonna have over 200 or around 200 people you could use the whole thing.

Either way just appetizers and punch for 200 it will be around 1500 or up depending on what you get.
